CBD and Arthritis

CBD products have long been recognized for their ability to reduce various types of chronic pain. With increasing studies on cannabis in recent years, scientists are discovering a deeper understanding of CBD, including its ability to relieve inflammation and joint pain. Research on this topic suggests that CBD can serve as a helpful treatment for chronic conditions such as arthritis.

While our knowledge of CBD for arthritic treatment is still developing, we already have promising information on its favorable effects for many individuals.

Understanding Arthritis

Before we delve deeper into how CBD can help with arthritis, let’s cover the basic definition and symptoms of arthritis. This will bring light to how CBD can help!

There are various types of arthritis, but the overall condition involves inflammation, stiffness, degradation, and subsequently pain of the joints. Inflammation usually worsens with age and  the amount of stress put on the joints. Arthritis leads to chronic pain that can hinder a person’s mobility.

Types of arthritis include conditions such as gout, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and osteoarthritis, among others. Most types of arthritis are also associated with autoimmune disorders.

As of now, CBD has not been specifically studied on all types of arthritis. It is likely more effective in treating certain symptoms and types over others. Overall, CBD shows its main efficacy by reducing inflammation and general pain related to swelling and irritation.

Studies on CBD for Arthritis

Multiple studies involving CBD have shown its effectiveness in reducing joint inflammation in test subjects.

A 2016 lab study on rats resulted in reduced joint pain and inflammation on test subjects that were administered CBD. This test revealed clear efficacy of CBD in treating pain, but left questions about how exactly CBD works.

In 2019, a study showed that CBD was becoming an increasingly popular treatment among individuals with rheumatoid arthritis. Results of the study suggested that certain cannabinoid receptors in the human body might have an anti-inflammatory response when introduced to CBD. However, it is important to note that some cannabinoid receptors showed a pro-inflammatory response, and the correct receptors must be targeted.

Over the years, various research has supported the idea that CBD poses relatively low-risk in terms of side effects when used as a pain reducer. Ultimately, this makes it regarded as a safe option for those struggling with arthritis.

Approaches with CBD

There are many additional reasons why CBD can be a treatment of choice for arthritis.

For one, CBD approaches the root cause of arthritic pain. It works by reducing inflammation, not simply numbing or covering up the pain. Overall, this can help many individuals enjoy greater mobility of their bodies, and remain active without brain fog or impairment.

Additionally, CBD poses relatively low risks in comparison to many pain killers that can have heavy side effects and addictive qualities. CBD is non-habit-forming and not physically addictive.
